The problem
A coating line that ran a little below its potential, on a business profitable enough that no one had ever been forced to find out why.
The approach
We entered through the P&L, mapped the processes that drove the throughput numbers, and stacked the right technology on top — in that order.
- Followed the number (cost-per-metre) back to the process that produced it
- Re-sequenced the process to remove the bottleneck
- Put the right technology behind the new process
- Pulled in specialists where depth was needed
